Spam on my Blog

How do you combat SPAM? I am not sure I know how to figure out which comments on my blog are spam and which ones are real. I wish there was a tool that would help. I have a counter on my site which says 1 visitor came to my site but yet I have 20 new comments from different email addresses that do not make sense. Really if you want to comment on my blog don’t tell me it looks nice and especially if I am talking about for example my daughter’s kindergarten supply list then a comment about how my opinion is not backed up by facts seems to not make any sense. So please stop spamming my site. This is just my personal blog about “Mommy” experiences.

Pre-K Transition to Kindergarten

The transition from Pre-K to Kindergarten was really taking a toll on my husband and I. It was crazy. My daughter, every morning made it a crazy task to get her ready to go to school. She cried and had a temper tantrum everyday. It was so bad that I went to the teacher to find out if there was a problem in the classroom. The teacher was so sweet and nice and explained that when my daughter gets into the classroom from Before Care that she is perfect and interacts and has fun all day. It was so upsetting to see my daughter this way. It was so difficult that I continued to see the teacher almost everyday to discuss options to help with this transition. She was never like this except on the first day of day care.

The teacher decided it would be best that we create a communication log that would act as a way for me to know what my daughters favorite part of the day was. It was important that we focus on the favorite part of the day rather than asking “How was your day?” This communication log helped a little but never 100%.

Then I decided it was time to make a major change and I asked my boss if I could coordinate having my daughter take the bus instead of going to Before Care and she approved. This would mean I could come in late everyday and wait for the bus with her. On December 1st we decided to have her take the bus for the first time and from that point on there were no more transition issues, no more crying and everything was FABULOUS about going to school. It was a little miracle for us. Who would have thought that letting our daughter take the bus would solve the transition issue and now she loves going to school!

Wean Green Baby Food Containers

As Wean Green Cubesa result of this Blog a company that creates glass baby food containers contacted me and asked if I had wanted a free sample and then to write a review on my blog. I answered the offer with an “Of Course” however I do not make my own baby food. However I do pack small size cut up fruit for my daughter and give it to her for lunches and these would be perfect size containers.

The company is http://weangreen.com/. They were very nice to offer me the free samples. Wean Green is a Canadian company dedicated to providing parents with safe and environmental baby products that fit into every parent’s diaper bag. They research environmentally friendly, modern, and unique baby products.
Eco friendly glass containers with colorful covers. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to get anything that is useful and free.

They arrived at my house and I thought they are indeed perfect size when I pack blueberries and cut up strawberries for my daughter and if I was a mom who made baby food they were perfect for that also. They are glass containers with plastic clip on covers. The glass container went through the break test. I know this because I dropped it on my kitchen floor and it did not break, so I was relieved. The size is perfect for small servings almost exactly the same as 1 serving baby food jar. The containers are easily handled, stackable and easy to clean. The one problem that I found with them is that the plastic clippable covers did not last very long and the clip on one of them broke of in 3 uses. I understand that they want to make sure they are air tight and want the clippable lid however with bending it to open and then bending it to close it must not have been worthy of the wear and tear although very minimal. I was very disappointed because I would have replaced all of the containers I use in my household with them but now after realizing that they do not withstand the opening and closing more than a few times I would prefer to stay with the Rubbermaid 7J55 Easy Find Lid Square 1/2-Cup Food Storage Container, 2 pack
that I have been using which can be found at Amazon by following the link above.

Did anyone else get the free samples? Did anyone else have the same problem that I did?

First Day of Kindergarten

So today was the first day of Kindergarten for my daughter. It was chaos. We arrived at the school to be told that we could not walk her into the classroom and to wait for the teacher to come and get her. There were other parents with their children there also. Then another teacher came out and said we can’t wait there but today it is ok. Then the greeter at the front desk said we can’t wait there. We were then told to walk around the back of the building to go through the walker door. We went around the back and they took her in and it seemed like they shoved her in line and started to walk her away from us without us saying goodbye or giving kisses.

I was getting a little emotional at lunch time and tried to figure out a way that I could check on her. I called the district and asked and they called the teacher and I got the message that everything was great she is having a great day. Ok that made me feel great. She is doing fine no problems.

Then about 2:45pm I got a phone call from the school thank goodness I had my cell phone on me. The person on the other end told me that Gabriella has a letter stating that she is going to be a walker and that she should not go on the bus and instead be released and be able to walk home. EXXCCCUUUUSSSEEEE MEEEEEEE! Are you kidding? If you saw where I lived compared to the school you would have freaked like I did. I said “NO I GAVE HER A NOTE AND EMAILED THE TEACHER TO BRING HER TO AFTER CARE!” The note stated that she should NOT be put on the bus and instead be released to After Care. Now I am freaking out if they let her go walk this would mean at 3:15 she would be released and I am 45 minutes away. Now if any of you know where I live you would know why I got so upset. The school is on the other side of a MAJOR highway that you cannot cross by foot (obviously) and you would have to walk through a bunch of side roads over, down a major road, an overpass and then about a mile down the service road with oncoming traffic. YOU KNOW I WOULD NOT EVEN WALK HOME FROM THAT SCHOOL! So I called the After Care and they got it all squared away and went down to the teacher’s classroom and informed her of the details and I felt better then.

So then it is time to get there to go pick her up. There is traffic but I get there on time without a problem. I have to show ID because the Director does not know me. This is fine. I get to go in the Cafeteria to make sure I get everything and pick her up. When I walked outside the school my daugher tole me that she had a terrible day. The teacher did not let her play, she did not let any of the children play. There was no fun like the Pre-K and Nursery School. She told me all she did was circle time, coloring outside time and lunch and that was it. They could not play with the Kitchen PlaySet Area or the Play-Doh. She only got to see one of her friends for a few minutes outside. At lunch time they are only allowed to sit with their class (which is fine except Gabriella has a friend in another classroom). She told me she does not want to go back and hates it. She wants to go back to the Farmingdale Children’s Center. At the Children’s Center she told me she could be an artist and they have such cool arts and crafts that they can do. At the Farmingdale Children’s Center she can learn and have fun at the same time. She can play with the dressup and play areas. She wants to go back to the Children’s Center. She misses Miss Marissa, Miss Kathy, Miss Nicole and all the other teachers that made her time at the Children’s Center to great!

What a disappointing day for me. I was hoping to hear how excited she was about going back and instead I got this. Oh well. Hopefully the FUN DAYS at Tutor Time will be better this Thursday and Friday!

Kindergarten Supply List – She Needs What?

So on June 4th I went with my daughter to the school where she will be attending kindergarten in order for her to get tested for placement. While we were there the teacher coordinating the testing gave the parents a packet for Kindergarten and also a supply list. I didn’t even get to look at the packet because I was blown away by the supply list. It is amazing that the school budget does not cover these items. Then one of the parents said that we will get letters at home saying that we have to bring them all in again. The one thing that bothers me is that all of the items are apparently community items. Which means I am not supplying my daughter I am supplying items for the whole classroom. Here is the list:

  1. 2 pocket folders
  2. 2 large boxes of tissues
  3. 1 pkg of sharpened pencils
  4. 3 boxes of 24 Crayola Crayons
  5. 3 large (7.6 oz.) bottles of Elmer’s School Glue
  6. 12 small glue sticks
  7. 1 paint smock
  8. 1 pair of Fiskar Scissors
  9. 4 boxes of baby wipes
  10. 1 box of jumbo (2 1/2 gallon) Ziplock bags
  11. 1 box (1 gallon) Ziplock bags
  12. 1 Box quart size Ziplock Bags with zipper
  13. 1 box of colored pencils
  14. 1 box crayola markers
  15. 1 – 4pk. Expo Dry Erase Markers (thin) black markers
  16. 1 box of black dry erase chisel markers
  17. 1 set of water color paints
  18. 1 bottle of tacky glue
  19. 4 pack of Play doh
  20. 1 pkg of paperplates

Really! These items seem a little excessive for kindergarten. What does the school provide? The paper? I do not live an a rich district. What about all of the kids whose parents cannot afford to buy all of these items? Then when one of the parents said we need to bring the list in numerous times that made me wonder. Where does all the money go?

He Asked What?

Yesterday I decided to bring my daughter to a make-up for gymnastics. It is a nice family oriented place and she enjoys it. There is a two way mirror so I can see in but she cannot see out, so I get to watch her without her realizing that I am watching. She has been going for two years now. Anyway the main reason of this post is not to explain her participation in gymnastics but instead to share with all of your mothers out there what I heard as the parents in the viewing room chatted.

Behind me there was a woman probably a couple years older than me because she had a 13 year old and 5 year old she was talking about with another parent (a father who has 3 girls, 6 years, 5 years and 4 years). Well anyway the mother behind me was talking loud so it was not difficult to listen in and when she told the other father that her daughter’s friend was asked by a boy to send him a picture with her in her panties and bra I totally freaked. Oh my goodness they are 12 and 13 years old. I turned around and was totally astonished by what she had just said. I actually injected myself into the conversation because I was so surprised and I have a 5 year old and was wondering if this is what I have to look forward too.

I amazed me what she was saying about girls in middle school. Leaving school grounds during school, getting sexts or sexts requests, going to parties where there is little or no parental supervision. I am so surprised that my generation is letting their kids do this. I am amazed that there is no order and rules for kids in middle school. She went on to say that her daughter is grounded and she ended up getting a phone call from her daughters friend saying that she did not send the naughty picture. The mother said she would not tell the girls mother but she ended up telling and saying to keep it in confidence. I am really surprised. These girls are 13. When we were all 12 and 13 we were talking about kissing boys and holding hands and now they are asking for naughty pictures in sexy underwear.

The mother then continued to tell us that her daughter went to a party last weekend with 40-50 kids at someone’s house with only a few adults and things were pretty crazy. Really there are parties at that age with 40-50 kids. Wow. Just Wow!

I am disappointed in how we are bringing up our children today both boys and girls. For a boy to think that it is ok to ask for a picture like that and for a girl to respond and send it. I pray that I continue to be involved in my daughter’s life and that she would never be involved with other kids that did that.

Do you agree with me?

Are you Buying A Brand New House?

I am writing this from personal experience and just so people know what happened to me and can try not to have it happen to them. In 2007 I decided to take a job in Connecticut and my husband and I decided to build a brand new house. Everything was going fine my husband had the time to make all the customized selections because I was at a new job and he was working from our rented apartment. We would visit a few times and see the progress. We tool pictures. My daughter and I would walk around looking at all the rooms and go into her room and she actually was so excited to have a pink room.

Then the bad even happened. Apparently the builder left the basement sliding glass door open and some vandals broke in. They decided to set the house on fire in numerous rooms. It turns out one of the neighbors was up tending to their child in the middle of the night and they called 911. We found out that morning and quickly rushed to the scene to find a burnt mess. Thank goodness we did not close on the house yet but we were still under contract so we needed to speak with the builder to find out our options. We were supposed to close in 13 days. I was devastated! My daughter was so upset we had to tell her the house had a boo boo and that her pink room was black with soot.

We ended up meeting with the builder and he gave us some options. He informed us that he did not have insurance and he self insured. This means he had to use his own money to make the repairs. We turned down the offer to get a discount on the house because we wanted a new house. We ended up getting out of the contract.

Later we found out that apparently the builder had to sell collections of coins and other collectable to make the repairs. We went to see how the repairs looked and it was not the same house. We decided to get out of dodge because of numerous reasons all stemming from this event.

The moral of the story is if you are building a brand new home make sure there is appropriate security in the house and make sure the builder is adequately insured or can cover the cost of repairs.

The Case of the Red Hiney

So yesterday on the way home from work I needed to get a birthday gift for one of my daughter’s little friends and I had a coupon for JC Penney. We decided to stop by and quickly get some gifts and I promised my daughter that I would get her a Pretzel Dog at Pretzel Time and she said she wanted some fruit punch. I thought nothing of it and got her what she wanted because she was hungry and if she wants a hot dog I am all for it.

We walked to the car and she finished the hot dog and she wanted the fruit punch. I gave it to her in her car seat. I told her to be careful but you know that any 5 year is usually not careful. She saw that the cup had those little bubble things that you can press down to say whether it was diet or regular or other. She decided it would be a good time to press them down and then try to pick up the cup from the lid. What a big mistake! She ended up spilling it all over her clothes and I was in the middle of driving on Sunrise Highway not able to really stop and clean it up. We were almost home so I told her when we get home we can change her clothes.

Well when we arrived home she took off her pants and told me her underwear was red. I said ok her are new pants and underwear. No worries we will take a tubby tonight and clean up any remnents on you. Little did I know that the fruit punch had completely stained her hiney. Yes that’s right her hiney. You know how fruit punch turns your tongue, lips and above your mouth red, well apparently it is notorious for turning everything red. Her whole hiney was all red and the creases where her underwear was were still white like her skin. I could not believe it. My husband and I were cracking up laughing and so was my daughter. I wanted to take a picture and the only way she would let me was she told me “Mommy you better not post it to Facebook!” Can you believe that she was telling me not to post it to Facebook? She was so embarrassed that she did not even want me to say anything but I just had to share this funny experience with everyone!

Hope you enjoyed the funny laugh about the Red Hiney!

School Picture Day

What happened to the importance of looking nice on picture day? I remember when I was growing up it was the one day that most of the class tried to be clean, unwrinkled and neatly dressed.

This year at my daughters school her class had picture day and I thought that the children in the class dressed like it was just any other day. One child had his jeans rolled up, one had some play hard t-shirt on, and another just wore regular clothes. One other girl in her class sort of dressed up but still was in pants but it was a nice pants outfit.

I thought that picture day at school was that one sacred day where the kids dressed up. I remember dressing up in skirts or dresses when I was younger. What happened? Is it because no one ever wears anything fancy anymore because it will just get ruined anyway? I guess it is up to everyone’s personal opinion and they do what they want to do. I just thought it was supposed to be the day that everyone looked nice and dressed up a little. What do you think?

Textbroker.com Write Articles for Pay

I was trying to look for a website which pays for articles you write. I found http://www.textbroker.com which is a marketplace for webmasters to buy and sell articles. There are thousands of article topics you can choose from and all you do is create an author account write a sample so they can rate you and then you can start looking at the assignments. I found one that I liked and decided to write it. The article was about Eye Shadow and I had to use certain keywords in the article. It took me a minute to come up with a theme but I was able to fill up the required number of words which was 300 and then I submitted it. The article was due in two days and I submitted it early so I had to wait to see if the Publisher wanted it. They must have liked it because they approved and accepted the article without edits and gave me an excellent rating. I now have a balance of $2.25 for an article that took me about 15 minutes to write. I guess if you could get on a writing kick you could make some money or get a higher rating then you get more money per article. I need to write some more articles to get the minimum payout which is $10 but it might be worth it. So check it out and let me know what you think.
